Many people have their methods to cleaning their coffee pot. Some of us, like myself, go way too long without cleaning the pot. The result can be coffee that tastes bitter due to the left over coffee residue in the pot and filter. That is not a delicious thing, and something you definitely do not want to happen when you are serving guests or company!
One simple way to clean your coffee is pot, is the old-fashioned way with some soap and water. You simply want to wash the pot by hand, making sure to get in all the nooks and crannies of the pot when cleaning. Give it a good washing once or twice, make sure to rinse the pot well, and leave it out for air-drying. This is a simple way of cleaning your pot that will help it a bit. You can also run some hot water through the filter to clean that out as well.
Another way to clean your coffee pot is to pop it in the dishwasher. This will definitely get the pot clean, but what about the rest of the machine? The filter and the tubes of the coffee pot is where the coffee residue can get stuck and clog the machine. Again running some hot, soapy water through the pot should be able to clean it and make it somewhat better.
I have found the best method of cleaning a coffee pot is to use vinegar. This is something my parents did just about once a month while I was growing up. I have to admit, this will definitely stink up your house, but it is worth it in the end.
Some experts state to dilute the vinegar, but I find if you pour about a cup of it directly into your coffee brewing system, and turn it on as if you are going to brew a pot of coffee, this is the best cleaning method. I have also done this a few times on the same day to make sure to rid the pot of all the old coffee residue. If you are looking for a true deep cleaning of your coffee brewing system, think about using the vinegar method to cleaning it.
Once you start cleaning your coffee brewing system on a regular basis you will never go back to the days of not cleaning it. The coffee tastes so much better, and everyone deserves a good cup of coffee!
